High Speed Digitising
REPLICA is an advanced system for fast, flexible
and accurate digitising of free form surfaces.
REPLICA reduces time to market: it can be used
to create 3D CAD models - quickly and accurately - direct from
objects; models and molds can then be machined directly from
data.
Complex physical objects can be scanned and then
animated, eliminating lengthy 3D computer modeling.
Manufacturers can use REPLICA to measure and
inspect complex 3D products by direct comparison with CAD
data.
The technology - laser stripe triangulation -
offers a cost and time effective alternative to touch probe
digitising.
Non-contact scanning makes REPLICA ideal for
digitising touch sensitive materials. |
|
The REPLICA reverse engineering system is a unique
product, opening up an exciting new dimension to your design and
manufacturing activities- REPLICA can capture the surface geometry
of parts and models, display the data and allow data transfer in
standard formats to a wide and growing variety of application
software packages.

|
Faster Digitising
Based on the latest advances in 3D scanning
technology, REPLICA captures surface data in a fraction of the time
required by contact or laser point probes- Byexploiting laser stripe
triangulation, REPLICA measures up to 14,000 surface points per
second, taking only a few minutes to digitise typical objects, no
matter how complex their geometry.
|
|

|
High Accuracy Measurement
As well as high speed, REPLICA provides high
accuracy surface information- This is achieved bya combination of
accurate point measurement and high density data capture - REPLICA
is capable of scanning points as close as 50~m apart (20 points per
mm). The result is a representation which is true to shape and
surface detail.

|
User Friendly Design
REPLICA has been designed and developed by 3D
Scanners as a fully integrated and user-friendly system. There's no
programming, teaching or complicated mechanical set-up required.
Scanning takes place at the touch of a button. REPliCA is operated
and controlled using a standard PC, making integration into existing
design and manufacturing systems simple and
inexpensive.
|
|

|
Flexible Application
Once digitised, the surface description is output to
a variety of software packages. This includes many popular CADCAM
systems, animation and visualisation software. The data can also be
used for inspection and measurement by comparing surface profiles or
coordinates with CAD data. REPliCA's flexibility has led to diverse
application in many design and manufacturing situations: reverse
engineering of complex 3D shapes into CAD systems; model and
prototype development; manufacture of tooling by mould and die
makers; animation and imaging; 3D inspection; documentation and
archiving.

Simple to Use - With Fast Results
It's easy to digitise with REPLICA. In just five
simple operations you can capture the surface geometry of objects
and output it in standard format to a range of applications sofware.
Set up is fast and straightforward and there's no programming or
teaching involved. Simple to Use -With Fast Results It's easy to

Position Object Place the object under the sensor or mount it in a rotary
axis, as appropriate. Production parts, prototypes and models,
tooling, hand crafted designs of almost any form can be
scanned. |
 |
Define Scan Parameters Specify the area to be digitised and the density of data
required using SCAN3D, 3D Scanners' Windows-based 3D digitising
software. For more sophisticated digitising tasks, SCAN3D provides
powerful tools to allow, for example, definition of more complex
scanning strategies. |
 |
Scan Press 'Scan' on the
PC and REPLICA automatically digitises the object, either by passing
the sensor over the object or by rotating the object under the
sensor. It's an extremely fast operation. |

View and
Manipulate The digitised points are quickly
viewed on the PC as either a 3D image, a range image -where shades
of colour are used to represent height -or as a series of 2D
profiles. At this stage, SCAN3D provides versatile and easy to use
manipulation and filtering functions for altering data density ,
smoothing data and many other editing tasks. |
 |
Transfer Data Output the
edited dataset in standard format to your chosen application
software system. REPLICA interfaces with the majority of CAD
and 3D graphics packages including AutoCAD, for which REPliCA
generates a 3D DXF file, and Delcam's DUCT, the surface modelling
CADCAM system, for which a direct interface is available. |
 |
Animate, analyse, modify ,
machine Now that REPLICA has established a
high-speed route between solid object and computer model, you are
free to get on with your task, whether it is animation, analysis,
visualisation or the generation of a machining program for a milling
machine. |
This series of photographs features a
hand crafted relief of Mozart being digitised and viewed as a range
image. The scan data was imported to a CADCAM package to produce a
scaled model of the original. The data was scaled and surfaced and a
machining program generated with which to drive a milling machine.
The result is an accurate reproduction of a detailed free form
surface. No wonder REPLICA is gaining recognition as a time and
cost-effective alternative to touch probe digitising or direct
computer modelling. |
